CURRICULUM OBJECTIVE
The objective of this short course is to introduce students to the skills they will
need to succeed in the real world. The course is also designed to give students an
environment in which to practice these skills. Most successful people agree that all
skills, be they communication, swimming, networking, riding a bike, or public speaking
have two things in common. First, they must be learned and second, skills that are learned
will only improve if they are practiced.
There are no lectures in the Teenagers Preparing for the Real World
curriculum. The course is built around a series of three interactive projects that are
student-run and teacher facilitated. Each of the three projects incorporates one or more
people from the business community who serve as volunteers sharing their valuable
knowledge about what it takes to succeed in the world of work.
Student performance in this course is evaluated based on their participation in the
interactive projects, as well as a portfolio they will submit at the conclusion
of the course. Instructions on developing student portfolios are provided throughout the
10-day lesson plan (teacher's guide).
A Reading Comprehension Test is also
available. |
This 10-day integrated curriculum is typically implemented over the course of ten
weeks - one day each week - one class period each day. Implementation is flexible and
can be adjusted to fit the needs of individual classes.
The comprehensive Teacher's Guide includes a complete 10-Day lesson plan as well
as ten (10) reproducible student handouts. To get started, each student will need a
copy of the Teenagers Preparing for the Real World student book and the
educator will need one Teacher's Guide. An optional "Chad Foster Live"
student presentation video is also available to assist in motivating students (See
The Video)
