Studies show that 70% of employees who lose or quit their jobs do so for one reason – they can’t get along with their co-workers, supervisors, and/or customers. This is a staggering statistic and one that warrants the immediate and focused attention of educators. The ability to get along with others will serve students in all aspects of life, in the classroom, and in the workplace.

The Power of People Skills 9-day unit will address conflict resolution, the art of compromise, and the power of ‘win-win’ engagement. This will be accomplished through a series of individual and collaborative projects that are extremely relevant to success for all students. Students who develop strong people skills will be better prepared to deal with difficult people, handle unpleasant environments, and manage uncomfortable situations.

The comprehensive Teacher Manual includes all lesson plans, daily schedules, reproducible student handouts, and evaluation tools needed to complete the 9-day unit. Implementation of the Power of People Skills short-course is flexible and easy to integrate into any existing class or Advisory period. No teacher training is required to implement this project-based resource.

NOTE: If you have access to Chad Foster’s Career Readiness for Teens student book, you may want to have students read the chapter titled, The Two Million Dollar Mouth, prior to starting this unit.
